My name is Kevin den Dunnen, and I am a Student Content Developer here at Virtual High School (VHS). I have lived just outside Goderich, Ontario my entire life. I consider myself an athletic person, playing competitive soccer across Western Ontario, racing motocross, going to the gym, and swimming. My hobbies include staying involved in new tech as it’s produced, playing video games, and watching movies.
My journey to Virtual High School started through a co-op program at St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary School. I was able to earn two high school credits while at VHS during which time I learned new skills such as coding, web development, Photoshop, and much more. My high school holds an event called the Career Fair at the end of each semester where co-op students showcase their experiences. It was exciting to create the display and to demonstrate how valuable it has been for me to complete my co-op at VHS. I was also happy to share with others that I was offered a summer job here as well!
One of the reasons I have enjoyed VHS so much is the varied work that my team members have me do. After just four months at VHS, I have
- input data into VHS’s custom internal copyright information tracking program
- set up computers for new hires
- updated courses in Math and the Social Sciences by using HTML and CSS in Dreamweaver,
- created pages for a large publishing contract that VHS is working on
- created/edited photos in Photoshop
- written a blog post!
I will be starting in the Fanshawe College Business program this September. Once I have completed this program at Fanshawe, I plan to take a more advanced course with some electives that will focus on computer science.
Working at VHS has been an extremely valuable experience for me. I have gained an immeasurable amount of knowledge through my work and collaborations with all the brilliant minds here. Being in such a forward thinking place is extremely helpful and satisfying. I hope to be able to continue my journey with VHS for a long time to come.
It has been a pleasure to have Kevin join our team for his co-op, and we are happy to have him continue with us throughout the summer!
