Augusta Ray is a VHS student from Toronto who is an up-and-coming musician. Augusta has a unique country/rock sound. She attributes this to her upbringing, listening to Shania Twain, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix. The past year has been a busy year for Augusta. She has split her time between two homes: one in Nashville, TN and another in Toronto, ON as she works in the studio writing and recording. When she is not in the studio, Augusta spends her time travelling and performing. She has performed among acts such as Trace Adkins, Montgomery Gentry, Big & Rich, Cam, Michael Ray, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kool and The Gang, Elle King, Def Leppard, and Paul McCartney.

Before she began her courses with Virtual High School, Augusta would come home from the studio or performances past midnight, sit at the kitchen table, and begin her homework. “Because of this, I was a tired, cranky thirteen-year old,” Augusta says. She was struggling to keep up with schoolwork, and her grades were not where she knew they could be. After her second year of high school, Augusta and her parents decided that it would be best to find a solution that would allow her to continue pursuing her dream, all while earning her high school diploma. At this time Augusta was offered an artist management deal with a company based in Nashville, TN. Signing this deal would mean that Augusta would be touring, opening for established artists, and playing her own original music to thousands of country music fans across the United States. “It was a no brainer. I signed that contract, packed up my stuff (with my mother) and moved to Nashville, TN almost full time,” Augusta says. During this time she discovered Virtual High School:

“Virtual High School was the institution that changed my life for the better. Not only is the staff so incredibly helpful, supportive and understanding, but the way that the program was designed has also allowed me to carefully analyze the material in my courses at my own pace, all while being equally creative, musically … The fact that I can work on my second record while finishing off my final year of high school is just amazing to me. One thing that I’ve noticed in both music and education is that you can’t succeed on your own. You need a team, and I am so thankful to have a team of supporters at VHS who support both my academic and musical endeavors. Thank you, Virtual High School,  for giving me the opportunity to pursue my passion every day of my life, all while getting my high school diploma.”

Congratulations, Augusta, on all of your success and best wishes for the future.
