Upcoming Programs of Interest

Enrichment opportunities outside of school are a great way for students to gain experience and expand their horizons. At VHS, we encourage students to explore these opportunities through educational programs so they can take advantage of the benefits that may serve them well in the future. Many program deadlines are quickly approaching, so we encourage students to do their research and consider applying to some of the exciting options below.

Encounters with Canada

Encounters with Canada is a unique opportunity for teens who wish to meet other young people from across the country during a week-long program in Ottawa. The program allows students the opportunity to explore future career options through experiential learning. To be eligible, students must be 14–17 years of age, be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, be enrolled in a Ministry-recognized school in Canada, such as VHS, and have written consent from a parent/guardian and a recommendation from their school.

Watch the video below to learn more about the program.

Encounters with Canada offers various theme weeks throughout the year, with some occurring multiple times. Some examples of these themes include Business & Entrepreneurship, Democracy & Youth, Global Affairs, Sports & Fitness, and many more. For the entire list of offerings and dates, check out their website.

These week-long opportunities come with a fee of $750 that includes program fees, accommodation, meals, and travel. All programs are first come, first serve, so don’t wait to register. Let us know if you attend—we want to hear about your experience!
