Teacher

Virtual High School has been providing online high school courses to students from Ontario and other parts of the world since 2002. As a private school issuing Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) credits, we have grown to be the one of the largest private high schools in Canada. It is expected that VHS will have 6000 students in 2016. Our online teaching staff are fully supported in providing an innovative environment within our D2L Integrated Learning Platform, called Brightspace, in order to promote collaboration and effective teaching in the online classroom.

Virtual High School and its faculty have made a commitment to providing the best education possible using all of the advantages of an asynchronous learning strategy and the capacity of technology to connect people around the world. VHS courses are hosted in the world’s best virtual learning environment provided by the D2L™ Integrated Learning Platform, Brightspace™. We consistently receive positive feedback from our students on the structure of our online courses and the flexibility it allows learners. VHS and VES currently have over 120 online teachers providing grading, feedback, and support to students. All teachers work from home to complete teaching duties on a schedule that can be flexible within VHS's requirements.

Qualified teachers looking to make an impact in new teaching technologies and wanting to be a part of school which constantly sets new boundaries in education, are constantly being sought.  COURSE DEVELOPERS
8 MONTH CONTRACT
ELEMENTARY SUBJECTS – GRADES K-5

Position: Full-time, temporary (8 month contract)

Location: Virtual High School in Bayfield, Ontario

Virtual High School, located in Bayfield, Ontario, is offering an exciting opportunity to join a project building original online course content for levels Kindergarten to Grade 5 (K-5). This project requires development of 36 courses by the end of February 2018 for an online school in the U.S. All Course Developer positions will require the successful candidates to work at VHS’s office in Bayfield, Ontario.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Take written content and ensure it is properly designed/developed within a specified framework in the content management system
  • Meet all technical specifications within the content management system
  • Collaborate with the multimedia and web design teams to build animations, graphics and videos for use within courses
  • Coordinate/resolve technical or design issues that arise from course review
  • Collaborate with a team to find creative ways to present online content for elementary students while ensuring course design is engaging and accurately displayed
  • Research/develop interactive course activities
  • Take on different roles within the team, as required, and demonstrate flexibility to adapt to changing demands of the project

The Qualified Candidates will have:

  • College diploma and/or university degree in education, graphic design, instructional design, web development or related field
  • Well-developed technical skills and ability to adapt to new software and programs, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the Adobe suite
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines and specific project requirements.
  • The ability to work well independently and collaboratively to complete tasks.

 COURSE WRITER / REVIEWERS (K-5)
8 MONTH CONTRACT
MATH / ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS / SOCIAL STUDIES

Position: Full-time, temporary (8 month contract)

Location: Virtual High School in Bayfield, Ontario

Virtual High School, located in Bayfield, Ontario, is offering an exciting opportunity for innovative and creative educators and writers to join a project building original online course content for levels Kindergarten to Grade 5 (K-5). This project requires development of 36 courses by the end of February 2018 for an online school in the U.S. In order to meet this demand, VHS is seeking qualified applicants to join the writing and content teams, in the subject areas of: Mathematics, English Language Arts and Social Studies.

The Course Writer/Reviewer will be responsible for working in the respective subject area with a team leader, other course writers and course developers to coordinate the writing and content for up to six (6) courses within their respective discipline. These will be full-time, 8 month contract positions until the end of the project (end of February 2018), with the possibility of permanent roles being offered upon project completion. All positions will require the successful candidates to work at VHS’s office in Bayfield, Ontario. Time is of the essence in this project, so all candidates will be required to commit to specific timelines and targets to ensure that all goals of the project are met. Salary to be commensurate on education and experience. 

The Qualified Candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in subject area being applied to, OR related field/experience.
  • Bachelor of Education with a teachable in applicable subject area OR equivalent experience with early learners.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines and specific project requirements.
  • The ability to work well independently and as a team to complete tasks.
  • Exceptional skills in writing and research.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Well-developed technical skills and ability.

The Ideal Candidates will have:

  • Experience teaching in the classroom and online.
  • Experience teaching in the U.S. (online or offline) and with the Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, Florida Standards, and any other applicable curriculum standards in the U.S.
  • Additional education or experience in online learning, education technology, or related fields.
  • Experience with HTML programming. 
  • 2-5 years’ experience in education, technology or related field.
  • Experience in curriculum development and/or program planning.
  • Demonstrated experience with online learning management systems.
