Teacher

Virtual High School has been providing online high school courses to students from Ontario and other parts of the world since 2002. As a private school issuing Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) credits, we have grown to be the one of the largest private high schools in Canada. It is expected that VHS will have 6000 students in 2016. Our online teaching staff are fully supported in providing an innovative environment within our D2L Integrated Learning Platform, called Brightspace, in order to promote collaboration and effective teaching in the online classroom.

Virtual High School and its faculty have made a commitment to providing the best education possible using all of the advantages of an asynchronous learning strategy and the capacity of technology to connect people around the world. VHS courses are hosted in the world’s best virtual learning environment provided by the D2L™ Integrated Learning Platform, Brightspace™. We consistently receive positive feedback from our students on the structure of our online courses and the flexibility it allows learners. VHS and VES currently have over 120 online teachers providing grading, feedback, and support to students. All teachers work from home to complete teaching duties on a schedule that can be flexible within VHS's requirements.

 COURSE DEVELOPERS & COURSE WRITERS (K-5)
MATH / ART / ENGLISH / SCIENCE / PE / TECH / SOCIAL STUDIES

Virtual High School, located in Bayfield, Ontario, is offering an exciting opportunity for innovative and creative educators and writers to join a project building original online course content for levels Kindergarten to Grade 5 (K-5). This project requires development of 36 courses by the end of February 2018 for an online school in the U.S. In order to meet this demand, VHS is seeking qualified applicants to join its writing and development teams at its office in Bayfield, as Course Developers or Course Writers in the subject areas of: Mathematics, Art, English, Science, Physical Education, Technology and Social Studies.

These individuals will be responsible for working in the respective subject area with a team leader, other course developers and course writers to coordinate the writing, development and instructional design of up to nine (9) courses within their respective discipline(s). These will be full-time, contract positions for the term of the project (end of February 2018), with the possibility of permanent roles being offered upon project completion. All positions will require the successful candidates to work at VHS’s office in Bayfield, Ontario. Time is of the essence in this project, so all candidates will be required to commit to specific timelines and targets to ensure that all goals of the project are met. Salary to be commensurate on education and experience. 

The Qualified Candidates will have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in subject area being applied to, OR related field/experience.
  • Bachelor of Education with a teachable in applicable subject area OR equivalent experience with early learners.
  • Qualification to teach in Canada or the U.S. (i.e. OCT or equivalent) OR related experience with early learners.
  • Excellent attention to detail and be a team player.
  • Exceptional skills in writing and research.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Well-developed technical skills and ability.
  • The ability to work well independently and as a team to complete tasks.
  • The ability to meet tight deadlines and specific project requirements.
The Ideal Candidates will have:
  • Experience teaching in the U.S. (online or offline).
  • Experience teaching in the classroom and online.
  • Additional education or experience in online learning, education technology, or related fields.
  • Experience with Adobe Dreamweaver, HTML programming, or related development software.
  • 2-5 years’ experience in education, technology or related field.
  • Experience in curriculum development and/or program planning.
  • Experience with the Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, Florida Standards, and any other applicable curriculum standards in the U.S.
  • Demonstrated experience with online learning management systems.

This position requires successful candidates to work at VHS's office in Bayfield. Bayfield is a heritage village located in southwestern Ontario along the eastern shores of Lake Huron. WEB DEVELOPER (1 POSITION)

The Technology Department at Virtual High School (VHS) is expanding and seeking (1) qualified candidate to join its team in developing web applications for its online courseware. The position will be a full-time, contract position and will commence as soon as possible at 27 Main Street North, Bayfield, ON.

The successful applicant will work closely with the Solutions Designer and Learning Technology Specialist/Web Administrator to produce and maintain online courseware within the D2L™ Integrated Learning Platform, Brightspace™. Core activities will involve creating and maintaining static and interactive page elements and web-based applications.

Candidates exhibiting excellent attention to detail, a propensity to solve programs, and expert technical skills and abilities are being sought for this position.

This position requires the successful candidate to work at VHS's office in Bayfield, ON. Salary to be commensurate on education and experience.

The Qualified Candidate will have:
  • 2-3 years’ experience using HTML, CSS and CSS pre-processors, JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, MySQL
  • 2-3 years’ experience developing static and interactive web-based applications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Bootstrap or other modern web development frameworks.
  • Academic credentials in a web development, computer programming or related fields, OR equivalent experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail and be a team player.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.

GRAPHIC DESIGNERS (2 POSITIONS)

Virtual High School, located in Bayfield, Ontario, is in the process of building original online course content for levels Kindergarten to Grade 5 (K-5). This project requires development of 36 courses by the end of February 2018 for an online school in the U.S. In order to meet this demand, VHS is hiring subject matter experts to assist with course development, illustrations, photography and audio, video and visual asset creation.

The Positions: Graphic Designer (Illustrator) and Graphic Designer (Animator)

Virtual High School is offering an exciting opportunity for two innovative individuals to create visual concepts that are both stimulating and informative to be featured in elementary online courseware. The successful candidates will primarily be responsible for developing visually engaging and narrative illustrations and animations while working closely with the Multimedia and Development teams to ensure the online courseware is at the highest standard. Photography and videography would also be assets.

The positions will be full-time on a set term contract, with the possibility of a permanent position being offered upon project completion. Salary will be commensurate upon education and experience.

The Qualified Candidate will have:
  • A Bachelor of Design, related degree/diploma program, or related experience.
  • Experience with industry leading software and technologies including Adobe Creative Cloud Software.
  • A creative and innovative approach to design.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to be a team player.
