Virtual High School (VHS) provides online high school courses to students in Ontario and around the world. We have grown to be one of the largest private high schools issuing Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) credits in Canada. We strive to be a leader in online education; our mission is to provide the best learning experience for our students, with a flexible learning environment and the capacity of technology to connect our students with quality education. VHS also operates Virtual Elementary School (VES), a private, non-inspected elementary school recognized by the Ministry of Education in Ontario.

VHS is located in Bayfield, Ontario, a picturesque heritage village along the eastern shore of Lake Huron. Bayfield offers scenic views and natural beauty, in addition to beautiful beaches and the Bayfield River. Teaching at VHS

In addition to our in-house staff, VHS has a team of highly talented teachers. Our teachers all work remotely to provide support to our worldwide student body. Teaching roles at VHS are flexible and can fit into any schedule. Teachers work with VHS to set appropriate course enrolment numbers and can decide when and how they log in each day. VHS has specific expectations for teacher communication and feedback to ensure we provide the best support to our students, and our team of department heads is there to support teachers every step of the way.

ELEMENTARY MATH COURSE DEVELOPER

Job Type: Full-time, contract

Location: Virtual High School in Bayfield, Ontario

Compensation: ($46,000 - $50,000)

The Position: The Elementary Math Course Developer is responsible for assisting with the planning, research, development and creation of Virtual Elementary School’s elementary math courses. The Elementary Math Course Developer will collaborate with the technology, media, and copyediting departments, as well as the VES Coordinator and Vice Principal, to ensure that the courses are presented in an innovative and engaging way.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning, coordinating, researching, and developing course content in Virtual Elementary School’s elementary math courses to ensure accuracy, quality and compliance with Ministry guidelines and curriculum expectations.
  • Write, review and develop elementary math courses using creative approaches to teaching for 21st century learners.
  • Participate in the technical development work within respective courses.
  • Work effectively as part of a team to meet timelines, targets, and fulfill project requirements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in subject area OR related field/experience.
  • Bachelor of Education with a teachable in applicable subject area OR equivalent experience with early learners.
  • Experience teaching in the classroom and/or online.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines and specific project requirements.
  • The ability to work well independently and as a team to complete tasks.
  • Exceptional skills in writing and research.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Well-developed technical skills and ability.

The Location: This position requires the successful candidate to work at VHS's office in Bayfield. Bayfield is a heritage village located in southwestern Ontario along the eastern shores of Lake Huron. Approximately 200 km west of Toronto, and 80 km north of London, Bayfield offers scenic locales and natural beauty, in addition to beautiful beaches and the Bayfield River. Bayfield is a picturesque, cultural village offering gourmet dining, art galleries, and numerous boutiques and shops all along its historic Main Street. In addition, Bayfield attracts musicians and award-winning authors from around the world, which further adds to its cultural appeal and charm. SENIOR WEB APPLICATION DESIGNER

Position: Full-time, permanent

Location: Virtual High School in Bayfield, Ontario

The Position: We are seeking an experienced programmer to join our growing team. You will oversee our MySQL content databases and the Node.js backend that interacts with them to create our custom content management system. You will use Node.js, Sockets.io, Express, and other NPM libraries to expand our applications feature set and write APIs to connect our front-end developers to the application. Get ready to use Webpack and Bitbucket to run your dev environment.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Define site objectives by analyzing user requirements; envision system features and functionality.
  • Design and develop user interfaces to Internet/intranet applications by setting expectations and features priorities throughout development life cycle; determine design methodologies and tool sets; complete programming using languages and software products; design and conduct tests.
  • Recommend system solutions by comparing advantages and disadvantages of custom development and purchase alternatives.
  • Integrate applications by designing database architecture and server scripting; study and establish connectivity with network systems, search engines, and information servers.
  • Complete applications development by coordinating requirements, schedules, and activities; contribute to team meetings; troubleshoot development and production problems across multiple environments and operating platforms.
  • Support users by developing documentation and assistance tools.
  • Update job knowledge by researching new internet/intranet technologies and software products; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintain personal networks; participate in professional organizations.
  • Take ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; explore opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

The Qualified Candidates will have:

  • College diploma and/or university degree in Computer Science or related subject.
  • 5 years’ experience with most or all of the following: Node.js, MySQL, PHP, JavaScript, Git & Git workflows, Drupal 8, Gulp, Vagrant, and Amazon Web Services.
  • Web User Interface Design, Web Programming Skills, Software Requirements, Software Architecture, Software Development Fundamentals, Object-Oriented Design (OOD), Software Debugging.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines and specific project requirements.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Technical leadership and the ability to work well independently and collaboratively to complete tasks.
