YMCA Canada values inclusiveness and accessibility in its quest to serve people of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds. The organization’s goal is to improve the health of citizens across the country. The YMCAs in our local area have had an immensely positive impact on our communities through their children and youth programs, fitness and athletics services, newcomer support, healthy food options, and much more. This year, Virtual High School is giving back to the YMCAs across Southwestern Ontario by contributing to their annual Strong Kids Campaign fundraiser. The Strong Kids Campaign raises money to support YMCA programs that give kids the opportunities they need to reach their full potential. For example, this campaign helps struggling families to enjoy the services and programs offered at the YMCA, it helps teens learn to lead and feel successful, and it enables children to participate in the Y’s recreational activities. Read the amazing stories that the Strong Kids Campaign has made possible: Impact StoriesLearn more about their 2016 Funding Focus.

One of the many amazing things that the Strong Kids Campaign does is donate to the YMCA’s Celebration of Youth Awards. These awards demonstrate the YMCA’s commitment to invest in the young people in our communities because, by recognizing local youth who demonstrate sensitivity to others, innovation, talent, academic responsibility, and an effort to give back to the community in practical ways, the YMCA makes Southwestern Ontario a better place in which to live. Several $1 000 awards are presented each year. We encourage eligible students (17-19 years of age) to apply for this valuable award. Such achievements go well beyond the monetary value attached to them, as such recognition can be noted in resumes when students apply for work or seek further education.  Applications are due March 8, 2016. Learn more here.

For all of these wonderful reasons listed above, Virtual High School wants to contribute to the great work of the YMCA. Virtual High School will donate $1 for every like on our March 3, 2016 post on Facebook about the Strong Kids Campaign, up to 300. The deadline to like the post is March 9, 2016 at noon. Thank you in advance for your support in our recognition of the YMCA’s efforts.

UPDATE (March 16, 2016): Kathi Lomas-McGee and Jenn Evans of the YMCA in Goderich, ON stopped by the VHS office yesterday to pick up the donation. We were excited to meet them and to have the opportunity to donate to this wonderful organization.ymca-donation
