Maria Antonietta Gallo, one of our mature students, recently earned her Ontario Secondary School Diploma with Virtual High School (VHS). She is a wife and a mother of two wonderful children. At 40 years of age, Maria came to VHS to improve her English skills. She lives in Italy but was born in Canada and lived here until she was 13. She then attended high school and university in Italy where she now teaches English.
Two years ago, Maria learned that her qualifications to teach English in Italy were no longer valid. She was required to return to school and to begin rebuilding her qualifications to meet new educational requirements. She looked online and found VHS:
After reading the many fantastic comments about VHS, I called and got all the information I needed. In November 2014 I was enrolled and started my adventure. I thought it would have been easy since I speak, read, write, and teach English, but I had problems at the beginning with the new curriculum. Every teacher really helped me… Every time I asked for explanations my teachers were ready to help. This really helped me to not give up. The teachers and the whole VHS staff have been fantastic.
Maria has found all of her courses to be very interesting because they introduced new topics that she hadn’t studied in the Italian education system. She also enjoyed the online learning environment and makes this comment: “the organization of the courses, the online nature, and the freedom to organize your time on your own really helped me, especially since there is a 6-hour time difference between Canada and Italy.”
As a final comment, Maria says, “I am really happy to have met such a wonderful team.”
Coming to VHS allowed Maria to further her passion for teaching English in Italy, and we are delighted to have been a part of her journey! She says that she may be back to VHS to improve on other skills in the future, or, just for fun.
Happy English-teaching, Maria!
