Virtual High School (VHS) provides online high school courses to students in Ontario and around the world. We have grown to be one of the largest private high schools issuing Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) credits in Canada. We strive to be a leader in online education; our mission is to provide the best learning experience for our students, with a flexible learning environment and the capacity of technology to connect our students with quality education. VHS also operates Virtual Elementary School (VES), a private, non-inspected elementary school recognized by the Ministry of Education in Ontario.

VHS is located in Bayfield, Ontario, a picturesque heritage village along the eastern shore of Lake Huron. Bayfield offers scenic views and natural beauty, in addition to beautiful beaches and the Bayfield River. With gourmet dining, art galleries, and shops along historic Main Street, VHS is in the middle of a village with cultural appeal and charm.

Teaching at VHS

In addition to our in-house staff, VHS has a team of highly talented teachers. Our teachers all work remotely to provide support to our worldwide student body. Teaching roles at VHS are flexible and can fit into any schedule. Teachers work with VHS to set appropriate course enrolment numbers and can decide when and how they log in each day. VHS has specific expectations for teacher communication and feedback to ensure we provide the best support to our students, and our team of department heads is there to support teachers every step of the way.

Virtual High School is always accepting resumes from qualified teachers. When a position becomes available, we review the candidates in our teacher candidacy pool to determine whether any applicants possess the necessary skills and qualifications. Current Opportunities

Department Head - Humanities, Business, and Careers

Virtual High School (VHS) is looking for an individual to join our Academic Team in the full-time, permanent role of Department Head - Humanities, Business, and Careers. The Department Head is responsible for managing course content and delivery, teacher-student interactions, academics, and administrative services. The Department Head supports teachers and their teaching strategies to ensure an exceptional educational experience at VHS for all students. The Department Head will coordinate the tasks, efforts, and goals of their respective departments to ensure effective operations. In addition, the successful candidate will provide coaching support to students through our in-house Student Academic Support (SAS) program.

What will I be doing? 

The Department Head works collaboratively with the entire Academic Team to manage courses, effective teaching strategies, compliance with Ministry of Education requirements, and adhere to school policies and procedures. The successful candidate also will coordinate the tasks, efforts, and goals of their respective departments to ensure effective operations. In this role you will work with School Administration to meet academic, department and school needs. 

What skills will help me be successful in this role? 

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent, with qualifications in Humanities, Business, and Careers OR equivalent experience
  • Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification or equivalent
  • Experience with distance learning
  • A team player with a positive attitude
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Familiarity with e-learning authoring software or other related tools and technologies 
  • Experience working with live chat tools is an asset
  • Experience working within a Learning Management System, especially Brightspace by D2L, is an asset

Curriculum Coordinator

Do you have a passion for curriculum? Do you enjoy creating engaging course content and taking on new challenges? Do you have experience teaching at the elementary or secondary level? If so, we would love to hear from you!

Virtual Elementary School (VES) is looking for an individual to join our Elementary Team in the full-time, permanent role of Curriculum Coordinator. The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of educators to manage and develop elementary courses and help to ensure that students have an exceptional experience at Virtual Elementary School.

What will I be doing?  

The Curriculum Coordinator reports to the Vice Principal, VES and works closely with the VES team. You will manage courses, content, and effective teaching strategies to comply with Ministry of Education (MOE) guidelines and curriculum requirements and effective school policies and procedures. The Curriculum Coordinator will collaborate on planning, coordinating, researching, and developing elementary courses to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with MOE guidelines and curriculum requirements.

In this role, you will demonstrate flexibility by taking on opportunities to assist with course content across grade levels and disciplines. Depending on internal needs, you may also have opportunities to assist with our in-house Student Academic Support (SAS) coaching program and communicate with students, parents, and teachers to address inquiries and investigate issues.

What skills will help me be successful in this role?  

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent, with qualifications in science 
  • Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification or equivalent 
  • Experience teaching in the classroom and/or online
  • A team player with a positive attitude

Assistant Department Head (Mathematics) and Student Academic Support Coordinator

Virtual High School (VHS) is looking for an individual to join our Academic Team in the full-time, permanent role of Assistant Department Head (Mathematics) and Student Academic Support Coordinator. The successful candidate will assist the Mathematics Department Head with course development tasks, academic and administration services, and business development projects to help ensure students have an exceptional educational experience at VHS. In addition, the successful candidate will coach VHS students via the in-house Student Academic Support (SAS) program and coordinate the growth and development of the program.

What will I be doing? 

You will collaborate with a team of educators to plan, research, and develop quality courses and innovative teaching practices that comply with Ministry of Education (MOE) guidelines and curriculum requirements. You will develop and update course elements, including interactive activities, assessments, quizzes, and questions libraries. You will also be the point of contact for SAS coaching within all Math courses. You will help to facilitate student learning by addressing questions related to course content and providing real-time coaching support for students. You will also provide general administrative support for the program, including answering questions about the program, scheduling and coordinating coaching sessions, and directing questions to the appropriate subject area specialist.

You will also uphold the integrity of course credits through the review of student work flagged by the Academic Integrity team. Opportunities will arise to provide feedback on school policies and procedures and to take initiative to solve problems, address issues, and bring up new ideas.
